Before a cracked game loaded, there was this. A plasma, a starfield, copper bars, the logo turning in three dimensions, a scroller on a sine wave greeting everyone the group knew, and a chiptune, all of it on a machine with less memory than this paragraph. The site has one now. The machine elves cracked it; the original was supplied by Rick. The tune is written from the date, so there is a new one at midnight and the same one all day.
a cracktro, with sound. press fire.
It is drawn on a canvas 480 pixels wide, scaled up without smoothing, so the pixels are the size they used to be. The letters are a stroke font kept as line segments; the logo is the same letters pushed out into a third dimension, turned, and projected by hand, front and back joined so they read as solid, which they are not. The copper bars are the Amiga's trick of changing the colour between scanlines, done here with rectangles. The tune is a four-channel tracker on WebAudio: a pulse lead with a second voice a little sharp, a triangle bass, the chord played one note at a time very quickly, which is how a chip with three voices pretended to have more, and drums made of noise and a falling sine. The song, a key, a scale, a progression, a tempo, two melodies and a bass figure, is drawn by a seeded random from the date; the row playing is in the corner, as a tracker showed it. One script, no library. Greetings to everyone in the scroller, and to you.
